Review: Swashbuckler Burger at Centertown Market Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort provides several non-traditional quick service menu options at its food court, Centertown Market. Sometimes, you want a burger. How was the Swashbuckler Burger at Centertown Market?

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort functions as the main hub for the Disney Skyliner system. This Disney resort hotel can be reached by a short trip on the Skyliner from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Also, the Skyliner trip from Epcot to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort takes a short amount of time. Those traveling via the Disney Skyliner to reach Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation will utilize the Skyliner hub at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort before heading towards Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Epcot.

As a result, this hotel has become a good place to take a short break from the theme parks for lunch. We prefer to take a lunch break at Disney’s Riviera Resort, but Disney’s Caribbean Beach makes a good choice also.

During a recent trip to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, we visited Banana Cabana to try the new Banana Cabana Burger. This experience would not qualify as a success. In fact, we had another conversation with Walt Disney World’s food and beverage leadership today about the inconsistent patterns with Banana Cabana and a few other Disney dining options. Since Disney’s Caribbean Beach makes such a wonderful resort with a great location, we wanted to see if the quick service could redeem the poor experiences. Our last three trips there have been below average for various reasons.

For full disclosure of this dining review, we typed all the previous paragraphs before even placing our mobile order. We will see together how this review goes. By the way, Centertown Market strongly encourages using the mobile order system in My Disney Experience.

So, we mobile ordered the Swashbuckler Burger. The menu description reads, “grilled signature-blend burger topped with toasted coconut-curry aïoli, lime-jalapeño jam, fried tostones, and arugula on a toasted brioche bun served with french fries.”

Based on the menu description, this looks like a similar burger to the Banana Cabana Burger regarding components and design. We understand that this qualifies as a quick service burger. That explains why it costs less and uses a few less expensive ingredients. Also, we have noticed a pattern of having very similar (if not the same) ingredients for menu items served at Disney hotel food courts and lounges.

We waited to find out about the quality, though. The mobile order process at a slow time of day for meals took about 13 minutes, so not terrible for food court style quick service.

Our initial impression of the Swashbuckler Burger made us wish that this review was somewhere else. The appearance of the burger did not impress us. We also noticed that the brioche bun was not high quality. Still, on the positive side, the fries smelled and felt warm.

How Did It Taste?

The shoestring fries tasted like your standard fast food french fry at Walt Disney World. They were not good. Still, they were not bad either.

The bun, as expected, holds the overall quality of this burger down. However, the aioli and jam bring a unique quality set of flavors to this burger. The burger patty quality exceeded the usual Disney burger patty. Yet, we think you should not expect much extraordinary from the burger patty. The stars of this burger are the aioli and jam.

We found the fried tostones to be a neutral factor with this burger. We did not dislike them. However, they add a texture that some guests will not prefer. The edges of the tostones might cause some guests to dislike the burger due to their crispiness.

Conclusion about Swashbuckler Burger

We found this burger to be a better value than the Banana Cabana Burger. Also, of the Disney food court burgers we have had over the last six months, this one tasted better than most. We still have concerns for guests about the texture. Still, if you take a break from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, for example, and want to avoid the bad theme park quick service burgers there, this might make a solid option. A break from the theme parks with a trip on the Disney Skyliner to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort might recharge you for more theme park fun after lunch.

We would still select the Primo Piatto or Bar Riva at Disney’s Riviera Resort over the options at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. However, we feel a little better about recommending taking a break at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort now. As always, eat like you mean it!
