If you’re tired of the back-patting that wealthy celebs and filmmakers do each year at the Academy Awards, give indie films a try. Film Independent will be holding its 37th Spirit Awards this Sunday, March 6th, in Santa Monica, California.

Now, if you’re like me, you want to stay as far away from California as possible, but you still want to see what new and original films take home the gold. There’s a way to watch the Spirit Awards this year from the comfort of a movie theatre. For those in the Orlando area, the AMC at Disney Springs will be streaming the ceremony this weekend, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Awards show is slated to be three hours long. Advanced tickets can be purchased by clicking here. The tickets are “buy one get one.” So, bring a friend to Disney Springs! Even if you don’t stay for the entire show, there’s still plenty to do where Pleasure Island once stood.

Celebrating creative independence, original, provocative subject matter, diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision, the 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022, positioning it squarely in the corridor leading into Oscar voting. Returning to its home on the Santa Monica beach, the in-person show will be broadcast exclusively on IFC. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for the nonprofit Film Independent’s year-round slate of programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.

Disney Springs is located not far from I-4 in Orlando’s Walt Disney World area. There’s plenty of outdoor and garage parking available. You can check the Disney World app to check the menus and hours for nearly everything in Disney Springs. See you there!
