The trend of Disney Live-Action Remakes has been losing some steam over the past few entries. While some of them in the past have done gangbusters at the box office, relying on the audience’s familiarity with the original in order to try and sell a mediocre product, the goose might be out of golden eggs.



Films such as 2020’s Mulan were outright box office failures, while films like 2021’s Cruella and 2023’s The Little Mermaid performed below expectations. Not to mention the extremely poor reception from their Disney+ exclusive films, such as 2022’s Pinocchio and 2023’s Peter Pan & Wendy. And let’s not forget the current fiasco surrounding the upcoming Snow White Remake.

Currently, Disney is still planning a number of remakes, from classic films like Bambi, Lilo & Stitch, Hercules, and Hunchback of Notre Dame to more recent films like Moana. But now, according to a recent rumor, Disney may be doubling down on more of their recent material than originally expected. 

In a now-deleted story put out by DisInsider discussing the current lineup of remakes they mentioned that, according to some of their sources, Disney is in early development of a few rather surprising remakes. One paragraph states:

“There are also remakes in development for Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Frozen, and Tarzan. While there have been tons of rumors floating around regarding who Disney has as their top choice for these films, sources have told us that none of that is true, and these are very much in early development.“



While it’s no surprise that a film as old as Tarzan is being considered, the idea of doing a remake of Frozen while the third animated film hasn’t even been released yet is kind of pushing it. It is worth noting that Tangled and Princess and the Frog, both are also rather recent films, were already rumored to be getting a remake. We reported on it back in August. 

If this report is true (which it could all be hearsay), it shows how desperate Disney is to try and cash in on their older IPs to try and make money at the box office. But at this point, would the audiences even care?
