November 3, in the food holiday world, is known as National Sandwich Day. Did we find a good option with the Iggy’s Piggy Sandwich for National Sandwich Day at Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs?

Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs presents guests with various menu items such as burgers, salads, pasta, and steak. Most of the menu items at Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs rate as average. Did we finally find a decent sandwich here?

Rainforest Café continues to be one of the most difficult advanced dining reservations to acquire at Disney Springs. It ranks up there with Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, The Boathouse, and ironically, T-Rex Café, another Landry’s restaurant at Disney Springs.

Nevertheless, the food quality ranks among the lowest at Disney Springs. With over 20 table service options at Disney Springs (and more coming), far better dining exists in the area. Of course, many people love to visit Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs. Of course, others dislike it.

We have visited this location numerous times. Also, we have visited several other of this restaurant chain’s other locations. In fact, we are scheduled to visit one in the Midwest portion of the United States in a few weeks. To date, we have failed to find a sandwich or burger at Rainforest Café worth the time and money. That provides the background for today’s review of Iggy’s Piggy Sandwich.

During our most recent visit to Disney Springs, our group visited Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs. It has been a few months since we visited this location. Some menu changes happened. This pattern of change occurs often with this chain.

Despite that, we ordered Iggy’s Piggy Sandwich. Other dining companions thought this sounded good. We agreed.

The menu description reads, “Slow-cooked Cuban style pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard.” Though this includes the implication of it being a Cuban sandwich, one should not expect a traditional one. The menu does not claim this is an authentic Cuban sandwich. Still, one can see most of the components of a Cuban sandwich in the description.

On the positive side, the portion size of this sandwich looked reasonable for this price point and level of dining. Several of the ingredients brought above-average quality. The bread worked nicely with the other components. The pork and ham brought good flavor but nothing spectacular, though.

On the less positive side, we expected a spicier kick from this sandwich. Still, that may not be a fair criticism since the menu description does not indicate that we should have expected a spicy kick.

This sandwich comes with fries and cole slaw. Those tasted average. They were not bad but just average.

However, the pickle seasoning, coriander, and pickles themselves dominate this sandwich. Those took away from the positives of the pork and ham. We barely noticed the cheese due to the pickle flavor overwhelming the sandwich. One of our dining companions did not finish her sandwich portion due to this dominant pickle seasoning and flavor.

As you can tell, we find it hard to recommend this sandwich. This sandwich had so much potential. Yet, the design shows large weaknesses. If you visit Rainforest Cafe Disney Springs, we suggest ordering something else, like the Creole Mac and Cheese or one of the burgers. Happy National Sandwich Day to all. As always, eat like you mean it!
