Disney has a problem on their hands. They have recently tried to distance themselves from Johnny Depp over allegations stemming around his relationship with ex-wife Amber Heard. They have even removed him from the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film and are trying to spin off a new series with Margo Robbie. I mean there’s a reason they made Redd the Pirate right.
It all seems like they have a plan and they want to stick to it, but fans and audiences don’t seem to want to let go of Captain Jack Sparrow anytime soon. At the end of the day it was Depp and his portrayal of the character that launched the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and gave Disney the push to make other theme park attraction films–including the upcoming ‘Jungle Cruise’ releasing on July 30th.
Now there’s a new Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life, expansion that features Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Caribbean and people are loving it!
The YouTube trailer has over 900k views and 41k likes since it’s launch on June 13, 2021.
There are petitions to get Johnny Depp back as the infamous pirate captain one already has over 600k signatures!
Before all of this drama over Depp and Heard, Disney even went as far as to add Captain Jack Sparrow into the Pirates of the Caribbean attractions in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
The films are huge in China, so the attraction “Pirates of the Caribbean Battle For the Sunken Treasure” strongly features the character and new film stories.

I don’t think people want a reboot of the franchise for new films. I don’t think people are clamoring for an all-female version of the films either. However, people would love to see Captain Jack Sparrow WITH someone like Redd the Pirate.
If the excitement over a trailer for a DLC Game expansion was this high, how much excitement would there be if they brought Johnny Depp back to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise?
Now it’s just a matter of if Disney will bring Johnny Depp back. The reaction to the DLC aside, the #JusticeforJohnnyDepp hashtag on Twitter keeps trending over and over again. If Hollywood and Disney want to listen to Twitter about everything else, they might want to start taking notice of it for this too.
Disney doesn’t seem to have any issues licensing it out and taking money for Captain Jack Sparrow with the game. Unless they’re testing the waters?
But then again, we don’t know if Depp is even interested in returning after everything that’s happened?
