Recently new details have come out about the upcoming Star Wars spin-off series The Acolyte. The series is set to take place during the High Republic era, specifically about 100 years before the Prequel Trilogy.

There series is the brainchild of Leslye Headland, a producer of films like Bachelorette and Sleeping with Other People. She was brought into Lucasfilm at the behest of Kathleen Kennedy under “dubious circumstances“.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair Headland spoke on some of the details about the upcoming series and how it connects to the feature films:

“A lot of those characters haven’t even been born yet. We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about. My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?“

She also spoke about the uniforms the Jedi wore during this specific era:

“We actually use the term the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment. The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it’s almost like they would never get dirty. They would never be out and about,. The idea is that they could have these types of uniforms because that’s how little they’re getting into skirmishes.“

Not much is known about the series as of yet. Brie Larson was rumored to star as the lead role but now it appears Amanda Stenberg will fill that role instead. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this series; From rumors that Keven Smith will be directing an episode to two, to numerous reports of behind-the-scenes drama involving “creative direction”.

The series is set to be streaming exclusively on Disney Plus. No release date has been announced yet.
