Mardi Gras Vanilla Cake with Cinnamon Swirl Icing at Universal Orlando

When many people think of food at a Mardi Gras celebration, they think of Cajun dishes. Those assumptions display knowledge. Yet, people familiar with Universal Orlando’s version think out of this world style food items. This rings true even more with themes like “Planet Mardi Gras” and “Louder, Wilder, Spicier” this year. In fact, many food options display the incredible creativity of the Universal Orlando chefs. In fact, some incredibly creative desserts appear at the 2022 Mardi Gras celebration like “Ube Bubble Waffle Cones.”

However, one of the best desserts looks intricate and impressive but Universal Orlando chefs prove they can create an incredible tasting vanilla cake. Yes, I said vanilla cake. When you think of a theme park dessert, I confidently feel you would not come up with vanilla cake. Still, the Mardi Gras vanilla cake deserves consideration as the best dessert of the Mardi Gras season.

The Mardi Gras Vanilla Cake with Cinnamon Swirl icing appears innocent and timid in terms of flavor. Yet, the taste of this cake ranks as surprisingly good. This cake costs only $4.99 per slice. However, some guests wanted to know the price of an entire cake. Sadly, I never found the answer if they could buy an entire cake.

Okay, I realize I am overselling this cake. Yet, this cake fits a pattern Universal Orlando uses for seasonal events. The seasonal flavors change but the pattern of cake quality rarely does. This cake starts entertaining guests with beautiful presentation showing off the two layers with frosting in between. Mardi Gras purple icing covers the top of the cake. A small macaron completes the presentation for your eyes. The macarons are well decorated, adding to the look. However, the macaron ranks as weakest portion of this cake. Before that concerns you, I eat the entire macaron enjoying it but just not as much as the cake.

The softness of the vanilla cake portion astonished some guests with its quality. Somehow, this soft cake holds up the frosting and the macaron. The buttercream style frosting provides a cinnamon flavor that I enjoyed. I enjoy cinnamon in almost everything. I feel more things need cinnamon so factor that into your decision to buy a piece of this cake.

For $4.99 before discounts, this dessert may rank as best value for Mardi Gras this year. Universal chefs have basically mastered this type of creation. Like many other treats this year, I recommend you buy them from permanent food location like The Today Café. The temporary bakery cases, like the Tribute Store, work well but the permanent ones work better. If you need a solid cost-effective dessert to balance the taste of some “louder, wilder, spicier” Mardi Gras food, get this cake. As always, eat like you mean it!
