Could Disney and Lucasfilm be revisiting the divisive Star Wars sequel trilogy era? If rumors are to be believed, it’s possible that we could be seeing a whole lot more of Daisy Ridley as Rey Palpatine… er… Rey Skywalker.
According to website Giant Freakin’ Robot, Disney is in talks with Daisy Ridley to reprise her role as the Star Wars sequel heroine. Another rumor surfaced not long after via a podcast that Lucasfilm is planning a New Jedi Order trilogy that could potentially see Rey leading a new generation of Jedi.
While Disney has more or less ignored the Star Wars sequel trilogy after the disappointment of The Rise of Skywalker, it’s curious that they seem to be testing the waters with new Rey action figures once again…

However, the Star Wars sequel era is featured prominently in the theme parks and comics, with events in Galaxy’s Edge taking place between films. In fact, Rey and Kylo Ren still put in regular appearances for Parks guests.
While many Star wars fans would love to see Lucasfilm reset the timeline, it’s become increasingly clear that all roads probably still lead to Rey. Disney might just take a step back and rethink that era, but it’s highly unlikely they’ll erase it any more than they’ve erased the Prequels.
Giant Freakin’ Robot claims an insider has given them a tip that Daisy Ridley is indeed coming back for more Star Wars projects, but it’s not clear just what they are yet.
Our source shared that Daisy Ridley has signed on for three Star Wars projects. We can report that this means she’s returning to the Star Wars universe and has signed her contract to do so. However, we were unable to learn the specifics of what projects she’ll be working on. Will these projects be movies? Is Daisy Ridley doing more voice work for animated projects? Is she going to make another trilogy as the lead character? How central will Rey be in these stories? Will there be a TV show? These are all great questions that we wish we knew the answers to.
Things got even more interesting a few days later. A former Vanity Fair reporter claimed she heard “whispers” that Lucasfilm is tackling a New Jedi Order trilogy on The Ringer-Verse podcast.
Therefore it could be easily deduced that these two rumors intersect and Rey Skywalker will return in some capacity in a new trilogy set after Episode IX. Could Star Wars Episodes X, XI and XII be in the early planning stages in the bowels of Lucasfilm?
And if it’s true, could this be The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson’s long-rumored trilogy? Doubtful, as it’s seemingly dead in the water and bringing Johnson back to the franchise could open up some old wounds in the Star Wars fandom once again.
Again, this is all rumor and speculation at this point. But it’s unlikely that Disney would jettison the sequel era entirely, no matter how much some Star Wars fans would like it to be so. They’re probably just taking a step back and trying to figure out how to repackage it so those characters ‘sell’ better to the general public.
You know, like a warehouse full of unsold Rey action figures that will sell like hotcakes when packaged with Darth Vader and Baby Yoda.
