Jaws Fishbowl Cakes from Universal Studios Florida Summer Tribute Store

Universal Orlando out did themselves this time with the retro themed summer Tribute Store. This year marks the second time Universal Studios Florida created a summer season Tribute Store. Last year, the theme revolved around Jurassic World. This year, the theme involves classic Universal movies like E.T. Jaws, and Back to the Future. In the usual manner, the fourth and final room of the Tribute Store offers snacks and treats. This year, the treats fit classic movie concession imagery. Themed treats relate directly to Universal movies. The most impressive looking one (and most expensive one) goes by the name “Jaws Fishbowl Cake.”

This cake in a fishbowl costs $16. In previous stores, the concept of cake in a jar enabled guests to get a treat and a collectible jar at same time. During Mardi Gras 2022, a “Shaker Cake” enabled guests to have a collectible shaker after enjoying their treat. This summer, you get a fishbowl with “Universal Studios Florida” on it.

I lack confidence in the usefulness of keeping a fish within this bowl. However, I possess great confidence in the quality of this cake creation. This treat comes in two flavors, chocolate and red velvet. Based on initial reviews, I suggest the red velvet variety. Each fishbowl comes with two large layers of cake. In conjunction, guests find two layers of icing. A “Jaws” size gummy shark resides on top of this pile of sugary goodness. Gummy sharks are receiving rave reviews. Xavier, of Universal Food Blog, said that he wanted to just buy a box of the gummy sharks. I am not a gummy fan myself, so I consulted with many other reliable sources. I suspected the sharks would become stale. However, no one has expressed this issue.

This cake bowl concept looks a bit small for $16 initially. However, the bowl functions as a souvenir. In addition, the shape of the fishbowl allows a far larger portion of cake and icing than first glance indicates. The flavors in the fishbowl balance well together. This cake provides too large a portion for one person though. If you wanted to consume it all at the park, you will need a friend to share with. In contrast to previous treats like this one, the sweetness factor rates lower. For other cakes in jars or shakers, the sugar would slow you down before the portion size stopped you. However, this one offers a toned-down version of sugar compared to those. Now, please expect sugar. Yet, you will not get a sugar overload eating a reasonable amount of this cake with icing.

As usual, Universal chefs built on a good concept to offer more this year. I suggest you bring a friend to eat this one.

As always, eat like you mean it!
