Previously we reported that NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell announced, during the virtual Credit Suisse Communications Conference, that Epic Universe was “a couple years away.” Now it seems that construction is full steam ahead on the huge expansion coming to Universal Orlando.
Today @bioreconstruct on Twitter posted some images of construction staging beginning near the cleared land.

At center, a recent excavation at Universal’s Epic Universe. This area along Sand Lake Rd (top right) has long been approved for offices and warehouses supporting all of UOR. pic.twitter.com/1PZEuVFHcC

Interesting staging inside site of Universal’s Epic Universe. Might be test sections of exteriors, confirming weather durability, paint longevity, and how things look in differing types of daylight. pic.twitter.com/v5rxNfrKAF

The new park at Universal Orlando will be a massive undertaking and will feature several new “lands” like Super Nintendo Land and more Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Other rumored areas include one themed to ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and ‘Universal Monsters.’
Originally the new area was set to open in 2023, but due to the pandemic that was said to have been pushed back until 2024- 2025. But “A couple years away” would seem to indicate a date closer to 2023, so who knows.
Either way, it’s moving ahead and I can’t wait to see how it progresses and I can’t wait to learn more about what’s coming! We have some articles on rumors about the new area you can check out below!
