Disney Vacation Club Helps Pets Impacted in the Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian

This is one was a story I had to share! Because we love animals here at PNP. And I love this story.

After Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas hard, the Humane Society of Grand Bahama didn’t have the food or medical supplies to care for the animals. They worked with H.A.L.O No-Kill Rescue animal shelter, and got 83 dogs and a cat sent to the H.A.L.O shelter in Sebastian, Florida.

The shelter was in desperate need of linens so they reached out for help and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Walt Disney World Textile Services responded with 600 pieces of linen-blankets, sheets and towels.

VoluntEARS from Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, including the General Manager Paul Hart, delivered the linens tot he shelter and spent some time with the rescues.

H.A.L.O.’s Director of Development Allyson Bootes expressed her gratitude to the Disney hotel, Textile Services, and the Cast Members:

“We are so appreciative of the linen donation and the help we received from the Cast Members down the road at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort,” said Bootes.  “We were in a critical period of need after the hurricane, and this support could not have come at a better time!”

It was important because all the bedding used during the 14-day quarantine period had to be destroyed to prevent the spread of disease.

I am so glad Disney did this. I also want to take this opportunity to showcase how much shelters need items like towels and blankets. Before you throw away an items check with your local shelters to see if they could use them. Wild-life rescues also use textiles like these.  Many rescue centers have lists of items they need from blankets and towels to food, cleaning supplies and more.

Please consider donating to your local shelters. If you have their address you can even buy items from their wish lists and send them directly from places like Walmart or Amazon.

Of course adopt pets! There are so many animals needing homes. Please consider adopting your pet from shelters. They get a home and it allows an opening for other animals who need help.

What do you think? Comment and let us know.

Thanks for reading from the PNP pet crew – Charlie the doggo, and the cats: Stella, Jasmine, Mew Mew and Oswald.
