Disney Might Resurrect the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel with a Retheme?

Somehow, the Galactic Starcruiser returned?

According to insiders, Disney is seriously considering a retheme or reimagining of the billion-dollar disaster that was the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel.

The oft-mocked luxury LARPing hotel was recently closed after about a year due to a lack of demand. This, of course, came to the surprise of no one given the insane price tag of the experience.

But now it’s being rumored that Disney Imagineers are hard at work rethinking the hotel. And one has to wonder where in the galaxy these people were when it was being thought up in the first place.

From The Wrap

(…) an unusually specific survey obtained by TheWrap that was given to guests on the final voyages suggests to some that current CEO Bob Iger and other Disney executives may be rethinking their decision to shutter the Starcruiser completely. Questions in the survey, some say, point to a desire to rework and reopen the attraction as a more streamlined, less-costly experience.

“It’s better than 50/50,” Len Testa, President of Touring Plans and co-author of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, told TheWrap of the chances that the Starcruiser returns. “If they were going to lock the doors and walk away they wouldn’t be emailing every person who was on the Starcruiser to do a survey about how it might change.”

While Disney reportedly took a pretty sizeable writeoff on the hotel, it’s unlikely they’d just leave the hotel to rot in the Florida heat. It would appear they’re just taking a step back and rethinking the game plan.

Other insiders don’t think a retheme is necessarily in the works, and think this is more of an “exit interview” to better explain to management what went wrong.

Our suggestion, Disney, if you’re listening?

Original Trilogy.

All of it.

Retheme Galaxy’s Edge from top to bottom with the characters and locations that have withstood the test of time. George Lucas’ Star Wars is evergreen. Disney’s sequels and Disney Plus series are already forgotten by the general public.

I mean, I’d consider having dinner with Darth Vader. Maybe not at $5,000, but… Disney would likely have way more interest in a Star Wars experience that feels like Star Wars than the generic sci-fi hotel they tried to peddle under the Star Wars brand.

Think about it and get back to us, Bob.
