Occasionally in my theme park conversations I will hear someone speak their opinion about the best quick service BBQ place at Walt Disney World. They debate between Regal Eagle Smokehouse at Epcot and Flame Tree Tavern at Animal Kingdom. For quick service BBQ, those rank as okay. The king of BBQ at Disney Springs reigns as The Polite Pig located in Disney Springs.
Once again, people forget the high quality of food options that exist at Disney Springs. The Polite Pig qualifies as quick service, but staff will come to check on you at your table, adding to the quality here. The Butcher Board (intended for 2 people) presents a high price for quick service at $42. However, if you want to feed 2 (maybe 3 people) with high quality BBQ, this menu item needs your attention.
For your hard-earned money, you get some polite pork (choice of sliced or pulled), smoked chicken, prime brisket, and cheddar sausage with slaw. You also get two cornbread and some house made pickles. Wait, there is more. You get to choose two of the fabulous sides served at The Polite Pig. Sides choices are:
Roasted beets
Crispy brussels sprouts
Sweet potato tots
Mac and cheese
Potato salad
Burnt ends chili
Caesar side salad
Baked beans
BBQ waffle fries
Grilled skillet corn
BBQ cauliflower
(and) Tomato and watermelon salad
These will not taste like your average side dishes. As a result, some guests dine here only ordering sides. I have never heard a guest complain about a side (including the beets and cauliflower) from The Polite Pig.
If that is not enough food, you can add ribs for an additional cost. The variety and portion size of this quality BBQ makes this menu item shine.
So how do all those BBQ protein items taste? In a word…Good! For example, the pork features the right amount of moisture and flavor without adding any sauce. Oh, did I mention sauce, they have plenty of options. Feel free to add sauce if you like. The sauces here show off good BBQ flavor.
Also, the cheddar sausage tastes better than it should. The chicken offers solid seasoning and tastes super tender. On the negative side, the chicken portion size could be bigger for this type of meal. Yet, the brisket tastes very tender with an excellent balanced smoky flavor. I prefer a richer smoky flavor myself. However, my BBQ preferences were hardened while in graduate school in Texas. However, most people will prefer this level of smoky flavor.
Once you get over the high quick service price, this menu item delights the taste buds. Recently, I have noticed the price of this “board” increase noticeably from the first time I reviewed it. Though I could eat this all by myself, you might need 2 other people to have an enjoyable meal. If you are looking for a sampling of good BBQ at Walt Disney World, give this entrée a try. Also, The Polite Pig’s menu lists many other BBQ specialties. Trust me, if you eat here, you will never consider the BBQ places located in Epcot and Animal Kingdom the best BBQ ever again!
As always, eat like you mean it!
