Brightline-Virgin Trains USA Would Like To Put a Train Line From The Orlando Airport to Walt Disney World

Right now if you fly into the Orlando International Airport you can get to Walt Disney World via Magic Express, rental car or ride-share. But, there might be another option coming soon!

Brightline Virgin Trains USA in Tampa is looking at putting in a Walt Disney World stop on a train line going from Tampa to Orlando.

Brightline-Virgin Trains Senior Vice President Ben Porrit said this on Tuesday:

We are continuing to explore the possibility of building a station on Walt Disney World Resort property, which we believe will help transform the region.  A proposed station would provide a direct rail connection to Orlando International Airport and serve as the initial segment for Virgin Trains’ future extension to Tampa,” Porritt said. “A Disney station would offer the 126 million visitors and 21 million residents of Florida a car-free option to the state’s most-visited attraction and one of the world’s greatest destinations.

Disney is on board with this possibility as well:

As the top vacation destination and largest single-site employer in the United States, Walt Disney World Resort is an obvious choice for a rail station between Orlando International Airport and Tampa. While we have not yet made any definitive commitment, we have mutually agreed to more formally explore developing a train station on our property.

What’s interesting is that on a trip last year we talked to someone who has friends at Universal Orlando and he mentioned that they were talking about getting a stop on a train that was going to move around Orlando. Now Disney might get a stop directly on the upcoming City to City rail.

This is not the first time Brightline has tried to put a Disney station on the line filed with the government. They previously “discussed putting a station near Celebration, where State Road 417 takes traffic from Interstate 4 to the Magic Kingdom and other Disney properties.

Currently the company is looking at leases for rights of way to put trains in the medians of I-4 and 417, but they are still in talks with the state and Central Florida Expressway Authority on that one. Right now it is just a possibility. Their main project is a new line between Orlando and South Florida that will begin construction next summer and will run through 2022.

Personally, I love the idea of being able to take a train to Walt Disney World, and it might be a possibility soon.
