It appears that Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from the view for two weeks after comments she made on Monday’s show. Now she wasn’t fired like Gina Carano, which many are calling out.

What did Whoopi Goldberg do?

On Monday’s episode of ‘The View’ when discussing the banning of the book ‘Maus’ from a school she said:

“Let’s be truthful about it because Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

To which co host Ana Navarro replied with:

“But it’s about white supremacists going after Jews.“

And Goldberg responded saying:

“But these are two white groups of people! The minute you turn it into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other.”

While she isn’t wrong about how people treat each other regardless of race, the comments about it not being about race and “two white groups” set people off.

By Tuesday’s episode Goldberg was apologizing to the audience saying:

“Yesterday on the show I misspoke. The Holocaust is indeed about race, because Hitler and the Nazis considered the Jews to be an inferior race. Now, words matter, and mine are no exception. I regret my comments and I stand corrected. I also stand with the Jewish people.”

Of course that wasn’t enough for places like Twitter. After you “sin” once you deserve the strictest punishment or they wish you dead. In this case she got two weeks suspension from the show.

This is causing many to bring up actress Gina Carano. If you remember she got fired for making a statement about the Holocaust but Goldberg just got suspended.

In case you don’t remember here is what Gina Carano said that got her fired:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors… even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

The response for Gina was:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The message comes across that it’s redeemable for some people but a reason to fire others.

As far as Gina Carano is concerned many argue she was fired for being against trans-rights, because she refused to post her pronouns in her bio. Well people don’t have to do that. In fact many of the Lucasfilm Story Group, Disney employees, and others do not have pronouns in their bio either. But for some reason Twitter demanded that she had to.

But what many think really got Carano fired was her political leanings. She has been very outspoken about those. Goldberg is also outspoken about her leanings but she lines up on the opposite side of Carano, which is why people question the much more lenient outcome.

People make mistakes. Sometimes people have differing opinions that others. Having a job shouldn’t be dependent on social media agreeing with your personal views or forever wanting someone “canceled” for a mistake, but here we are.

Either way they both got punished, but one far worse than the other.
