With Spider-Man: No Way Home being one of the biggest Box Office successes in a while many of you have probably already seen the film and stayed to see the post-credit scenes. The last scene being a trailer for the upcoming sequel to the 2016 Doctor Strange film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The trailer has yet to be publicly shared outside of some low-quality recordings from inside the theater.

The trailer begins with audio of Dr. Strange from No Way Home. “The Multiverse is a concept of which we know frighteningly little“. The trailer continues as we see Strange walk down a snowy alley way and out into a city street where we see warped buildings crumbling around and floating in the air. We then hear him say “It was the only way“, possibly hinting at the spell he casted at the end of No Way Home.

We cut to Strange walking up the stairs of the inner sanctum which are covered in water. He also says “I never meant for any of this to happen“. We then see flashing images of Strange at a wedding with Christine Palmer as the bride, a quick look at Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, a crow, Wong seemingly struggle as he is casting a spell and Strange falling through a portal.

We then cut to a house in the wilderness which happens to be the home of Wanda Maximoff after the events of WandaVision. Strange then says that he’s there for her help and asks her “What do you know of the multiverse?“.

We then cut to a door opening to what appears to be a space station, perhaps the lair of the main villain. Then we see Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo say “I’m sorry Steven, I hope you understand the greatest threat to our universe is you“. As he’s making his speech we see Wanda in her Scarlet Witch outfit levitating books, we catch a glimpse of a fight with Gargantos, a couple more action scenes and then we end seeing Strange coming face to face with what appears to be Dr. Strange Supreme, saying “Things just got out of hand“. The trailer ends with the text stating “Doctor Strange Will Return”.

Overall the impression from the trailer shows that either the events of No Way Home or some other event caused the multiverse to begin to break down and Strange will need the help of Scarlet Witch to try and put everything back together. The main villain appears to be an alternate reality version of Strange who was featured in the Marvel What If…? series on Disney Plus. Perhaps we will run into other versions of the doctor as well. Baron Mordo also appears to be a major threat in the film.

Overall the trailer seems to be giving us just enough information to keep us speculating, just as most Marvel trailers do. Hopefully in the future we will get a more clear understanding of what is going to happen. But we probably won’t because the film is about altering reality.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is set to release on May 6th, 2022.
