Good news! It was just announced that EA’s Respawn Entertainment is currently in development of three brand new Star Wars titles. The developers behind the popular The Jedi: Fallen Order and Titanfall series will be bringing new adventures from a galaxy far far away.
The three titles will be as follows:
1 – A sequel to the 2019 The Jedi: Fallen Order. Players will once again play as Cal Kestis as he battles against the Empire and avenging his fallen Jedi comrades.
2 – An unnamed first person shooter. Since the developer is known for the Titanfall series and the popular Apex Legends online shooter it should be a fun experience with the amount of expertise this developer has.
3 – An unnamed Real Time Strategy game. The game will be co-developed with Firaxis Games, a studio made up of former developers on the popular Civilization and XCOM games. With the experience these developers have it will hopefully be a fun experience.
Electronic Arts is far from being considered a trustworthy company, especially with the pay to win micro-transaction controversy of 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront II, but The Jedi: Fallen Order was considered one of the best single player Star Wars experiences in years. Hopefully they will be able handle working on multiple projects at once, in a addition to maintaining Apex Legends.
In early 2021 Electronic Arts lost its exclusivity license to produce Star Wars based games, a contract that it held for about six years. This was most likely due to the low number of games produced and the aforementioned 2017 controversy, which Disney themselves supposedly stepped in and forced changes to their loot box system.
Now that EA’s exclusivity is gone more Star Wars games are being made from companies like Ubisoft and Quantic Dream. With Respawn now competing in the Star Wars gaming space they’ll have to work hard to stand out against the competition.Â
