Shanghai Disneyland Begins Testing New Standby Pass For ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’

Shanghai Disneyland has begun testing a new “Standby Pass System” where guests would be given a time to return to an attraction instead of waiting in line. The have launched the test with ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.”

It seems like what they were doing with Rise of the Resistance at Walt Disney World and Disneyland parks.

Here’s the information from Twitter user @gourmetdyy:

Here’s the information from the app:

A Disney Standby Pass is an online reservation tool launched by Shanghai Disney Resort to help guests better plan their queuing schedule for a more relaxed park experience. For attractions where the Disney Standby Pass is applicable, the corresponding attractions are only open to guests who hold either a Disney Standby Pass or Disney Premier Access for the corresponding time period. You can pick up a Disney Standby Pass — available on the Shanghai Disney Resort Official App for no extra charge and subject to availability, so you can wait in line for the attraction within your selected time frame.”

Disney Standby Pass attractions are subject to change and are only available to guests with valid park admission tickets.

To Check Disney Standby Pass and Disney Fastpass availability, please refer to the Shanghai Disney Resort Official App. Guests may purchase Disney Premiere Access for any attraction while also holding a Disney Standby Pass or Fastpass.

Disney Standby Passes will be released in the App on an hourly basis, based on that day’s official park operating hours. Each Disney Standby Pass corresponds to a 60-minute interval for the guest to arrive at the Disney Standby Pass entrance. The quota for each day is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The final release of Disney Standby Passes is approximately two hours before the park’s announced closing time.”

Here’s how it works:

Of course everyone is now wondering if this is what we will soon be getting at the domestic parks? It might be. I’m concerned though. Prior to all of this, you could get a Fastpass for an attraction or you could wait in line. But, you could still ride even if you couldn’t get one, except for Rise of the Resistance. That was one attraction. What happens when all the popular attractions go to a system like this with no stand-by? How is this going to be better? Plus there are still lines. This is a pass to be in the line.

It’s possible we won’t get this here, but I’m thinking we will. Now if there aren’t many people in the park, it shouldn’t hit a limit where guests can’t ride, like we see with the popular Star Wars attraction.

But, what concerns me is what happens when the capacity numbers get raised?

Everyone was trained that you get three Fastpasses and then you get more or you wait in line, but you could still wait and have a turn. Now we could face a situation where you can go, pay a lot to do so, and then only get to ride a few rides, but you can’t wait in line to try and ride more.

I want to say that I’m hopeful this is just a temporary thing, but I have a terrible feeling they will keep doing this for some attractions. Then it’s going to limit a lot of people. Is it then worth the money if you can only virtual queue and you know you can’t just wait and ride things more than once or ride your favorites at all.

Then there’s also talk about the rumor that Disney might start charging for perks like extra Fastpasses, or virtual queue spots is this all changes, in an effort to recoup money. Then we’re back to further pricing out their customer base.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I really do hope this is just a temporary measure. Of course it’s all ‘IF’ it is applied at the domestic parks. I think we all expect that to be the case though.

What do you think? Comment and let us know.
