There has been a lot of speculation about the Hall of Presidents getting a redo to Hamilton, but in a previous article, I covered why I thought that might not work, but I could see them doing something else with the space. At the time I hadn’t seen this rumor, which again comes from WDWMagic and WDWPro (credit where it’s due and all.) I have to admit, I never saw this one coming.  There’s a rumor that the Hall of Presidents may get some changes and partly by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, but with the inclusion of Weird Al too.

So here’s what WDWPro said:

“So put this one in the rumor category for now because it’s not a done deal as of yet. However, with three separate sources reporting the same negotiations to me, I’m certain things are being worked on, whether they come to fruition or not.

What I’ve been informed of is that Disney is interested in getting away from the polarization inherent in Hall of Presidents as it currently is formatted. They’re also interested in not spending large sums each time a new president is elected. Therefore Disney has reached out and is in talks with Lin Manuel Miranda and Weird Al Yankovic to write and direct a new Hall of Presidents theater show that would be non partisan and more timeless. This would not be a direct import of Hamilton, but might feature some influence. I have no info whatsoever about the animatronics or the costumes, but I can’t fathom Disney discarding them. I’m told the vision of the show is “historical but witty”.

While I’ve been somewhat displeased with Disney as of late, I have to say this rumor could actually turn out well. If they can thread the needle of being humorous, witty, historical, and interesting, all while not being offensive, I’m all for it. Weird Al potentially being involved took me seriously by surprise, but I could see this working in a zany way.”

So the good news is that it would still be a Hall of Presidents attraction, but it would try to be more fun, engaging and less divisive, good luck on that. The team up isn’t too strange given that the two are friends and Weird Al did a “Hamilton Polka” song. I just worry it could go from one extreme to another and end up too comedic for people.

It’s a classic though and a lot of people really like it, my mom included. But it’s also not bringing people in, and a lot of times people post they use it as a cool down break when they do go. I understand why they would most likely want to update it, I just worry that so much keeps changing and again, it’s going to come down to financials too.

Right now it’s just a rumor, but I had to share this one because it’s one of the more unusual, yet kind of fun, rumors. Who knows it’s true or not, but I have to admit, I’m really curious about how something like this would turn out and it was interesting not to share.

My husband joked that he hopes it’s not going to turn out like Epic Rap Battle.
