Review: French Toast At Walt Disney World’s Hash House A Go Go

Just five minutes from Walt Disney World is the city of Winter Garden. Although it’s close to the theme parks, it’s not as busy as expected. We recently stayed there while covering this year’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Traffic was light, the hotels weren’t packed, and we didn’t have to travel down International Drive to one of the few Hash House A Go Go locations!

What’s great about the Winter Garden area is that tourists stay closer to Disney Springs than they are now. That means shorter lines and wait times at restaurants! Such was the cast at the Hash House. Even at 9 AM, we got seated right away in the eatery’s vast and spacious dining area.

This was my first trip to Hash House A Go Go, and the thought of huge portions and the farm-theming were alluring. The restaurant’s interior is wide open with lots of corrugated metal, a tractor, and the smell of country cookin’.

Our waiter forewarned us that the portions were huge. Oh, don’t threaten me with a good time, buddy. I’ve heard that all before. If something is $20 a plate, it’s primarily filler and $2 worth of the good stuff.

Boy, was I wrong!

I had been eyeing Andy’s World Famous Sage Fried Chicken (with waffles). However, after ordering this on two previous reviews, I decided to pick something I rarely ever get: French toast.

Now, I know a couple of slices won’t be enough. So, I chose the Tractor Driver Combo, which pairs two eggs with your choice of bacon, sausage links, turkey patties, or potatoes with the toast.

These things are HUGE. That was some of the thickest slices of bread I’ve ever seen. The maple syrup was hot, and the griddled bananas smelled terrific. The pecans were also fresh! It seems silly to critique, but I’ve had so many places serve me stale pecans recently due to money-saving tactics.

Another welcome surprise was the inclusion of large strips of bacon. Again, inflation has seen places scrimp on these types of things.

The combo was only $18.99, far lower than I thought, especially with Hash House A Go Go being this close to Disney and inflation.

After being blown away by what could have been an elementary and unimpressive breakfast, I’m looking forward to returning to try out the fried chicken.
