Pixar’s upcoming film Lightyear is a spin-off to the popular Toy Story franchise that began Pixar’s rise to fame all the way back in 1995. This film will look at the space hero, not the toy version of the character. Claiming this is the version of Buzz that the toy was based on (Despite the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command TV series saying otherwise).
One of the big things that made people talk about this film was the fact that Tim Allen wouldn’t be voicing this version of the character and would instead be played by Captain America star Chris Evans.Â
The other day on twitter actress Patricia Heaton (Known for Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle) took to social media after seeing an early screening of the film. She lambasted the film for not having her close friend Tim Allen repose his role for the film. Going so far as to say they “castrated” the iconic character.
Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?

The tweet went viral, receiving over 40,000 likes and over 7,000 retweets. The post attracted people from both sides. Some agreeing with her statement, saying only Tim Allen should have voiced Buzz. Others denouncing her statement, saying it’s a different version of the character so a different voice is more appropriate.Â
One prominent rumor as to why Tim was replaced was due to his conservative political leanings. Since Chris Evans’ personal politics line up more with the current mainstream media he was a perfect replacement in their eyes. But none of this has ever been confirmed, just speculated.
With the film releasing this Friday it’s too early to call if the film will succeed or not. But due to multiple recent controversies surrounding both the film and Disney it may not do as well as the company originally hoped.
In all honesty, there’s only one real Buzz Lightyear film, the direct-to-video Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (Which still isn’t on Disney Plus).
