Monsta Burger at Local Green Orlando Food Truck in Disney Springs

Recently, a new food truck option appeared at Disney Springs. This new addition joins the food trucks located on “Westside” area of Disney Springs. However, this new food truck brings food in sharp contrast to the other food offerings there. The Local Green Orlando food truck serves a mostly plant-based menu. They offer some pescatarian options also. The focus with this food truck involves balancing nutrition and flavor. This company added Orlando to their market from their base out of Atlanta, GA.

The food truck declares a clear message with a green paint scheme. If you miss the primarily plant-based imagery, you are in for a surprise when you order. This food truck looks a bit out of place with the mac/cheese and hot dog food truck paint schemes nearby.

The opening day for this food truck was Friday March 11th. One of my writing colleagues went to dine there on opening day. This review mostly reflects her experience. However, I consulted with four other people who ate there also.

The “Monsta” Shrimp Burger called to many guests since they bought this during first two days of food truck operation. This burger consists of pan-seared jumbo shrimp, house slaw, a beefsteak tomato slice, and sriracha mayo. The burger costs $16. This price fails to include a side. Fries and other sides cost more. As you can see, the price point bears notice. However, the trap of “healthy” and higher quality food often involves paying more.

Before we get to the burger itself, this place believes in wrapping the product. These burgers were served in white bags after being double wrapped in paper. Several diners commented on irony of so much paper to hopefully recycle when using the green colored napkins from this food truck.

So how was the burger? Good news, the overall flavor ranks as very solid. The shrimp itself stars in this sandwich. The shrimp are prepared then placed on burger. Regarding the shrimp, they will fall out easily if you are not careful. The bun tastes good. The bun should be heartier to support the slaw and shrimp though. However, the bun tends to soak up the flavor of the slaw.

Speaking of the slaw, this slaw offers a great tangy style flavor. The slaw offers good crunch to go with the rest of sandwich. The slaw in combination with the mayo delivers a spicy aftertaste also. Still, this burger ranks as potentially very messy. Make sure you have plenty of napkins.

Despite the higher price point, the burger offers a unique burger style option to Disney Springs. If the price point was a bit lower, I would confidently declare this as a must do. However, if you are trying to dine wisely on a Disney Springs day, this food truck creates another good option. Though this review does not involve a vegan menu item, initial reports indicate vegan items exceed standard expectation. As time goes on, we will have a better feel for this food truck. If the “Monsta” burger is any indication, we should anticipate good things here.
