Loki Season 2 Premier Draws In Less Views That Season 1

The world of Marvel recently saw the return of the once popular series Loki which gave fans a deeper glimpse into the world of the Marvel Multiverse. The former Asgardian God Loki (Played by: Tom Hiddleston) and his female counterpart Sylvie (Played by: Sophia Di Martino) encounter many strange occurrences, along with running into the Time Variance Authority, aka the T.V.A.

The first season premiered on June 9th, 2021, and was well received as one of the first MCU shows on Disney’s then-new streaming service Disney+. The premier (according to Nielsen ratings) was 731 million minutes or roughly 14.5 Million views within the first couple of days. Not bad for a new streaming series.

Now, a little over two years and one MCU Phase later, a second season of the series recently premiered on October 5th. The premier received a relatively similar reception from critics and audiences (at least so far), with much praise for consistency between the seasons.

However, it appears that not as many fans have returned to welcome back the God of mischief. According to multiple outlets, the premier over the first three days has only received 10.9 million views worldwide. That’s down nearly 3.5 million from the last season.

This trend of shows losing viewers from season to season isn’t exclusive to this series as the once popular Star Wars franchise, with shows such as The Mandalorian, also feeling the effects of viewership drops. Shows like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi and even Ahsoka have seen viewership numbers declining.

We will have to wait and see how the rest of the season plays out. All we can say is that it currently isn’t measuring up to the previous season. With Disney desperate for content to keep their subscribers happy, perhaps they should expand beyond relying on multiple Marvel and Star Wars projects.
