From WDW News Today…
Yesterday, rumors of a soft opening didn’t come to fruition, although we saw Cast Members setting up for one. This afternoon, however, the ride was opened to guests!
Passholder previews for the new coaster were held earlier in the week.

Soft openings are sort of like a “beta” opening for a new attraction. It’s very common for theme parks like Disney and Universal to do a trial run of a ride before the official opening date. Generally soft openings can occur a few days, or even a few weeks, ahead of the hard opening date.
Avid theme park goers know this, and word tends to get out about planned soft openings. Sometimes those hanging around waiting for a chance to ride an attraction early get rewarded, like today.
