The upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film Madame Web adds actress Isabela Merced to its cast. She joins the cast along Dakota Johnson starring as the lead and Sydney Sweeny as an unknown role.
Isabela Merced is perhaps best known for playing the young Nick Jr. icon Dora the Explorer in both the Dora and her Friends: Into the City television series from 2014 – 2017 and in the 2019 live action film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. She also appeared in 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight. As of writing this article her role is currently unknown.Â
The Madame Web film is one of the latest Spider-Man spin-off films to be in development at SONY. In addition to Madame Web there is also the Kraven the Hunter and the El Muerto films also in development. With the popularity of the two Venom movies a 3rd film may also be in development.
SONY’s continued push for a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe aka Spider-Verse has many wondering if such a franchise can really be successful. The last time such a project was tried in the early 2010s was met with failure. The financial disappointment of 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 derailed any plans for a larger franchise for a time. With the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home SONY seems confident to attempt the idea again.
Other names are being tossed around for adaptations. Black Cat, Silver Sable, Nightwatch, Prowler, Jackpot, Silk and even the Sinister Six have all been mentioned. With SONY’s deal with Disney & Marvel ending they wish to repeat the success of the MCU. Other attempts as shared universes such as Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe and Universal’s Dark Universe. But so fan none have been able to take away the crown from Marvel.
Are you looking forward to the upcoming Madame Web film?
