First we had food price increases and now we have $2 price increases on Minnie Mouse Ear Headbands. They are now $29.99 (before tax.)
WDWNT caught it at Walt Disney World and posted about it.
I went and checked and most have been raised on ShopDisney.com as well! (Not all, there are a few that are still the $27.99 price)
Sure $2 isn’t that much, but it’s indicative of the larger issue that consumers are starting to stand up against. How much is too much?
With Disney pushing so hard for these “Instagram trend colors” like the Arendelle Aqua or the Briar Rose Gold and so on, they are raising the prices counting on the “influencers” to buy them up for selfies. Or maybe it’s because passholders and Disney Vacation Club members get discounts and since a lot aren’t renewing they need to up the price to offset the losses. Who knows. What I do know is that attendance is down BUT the spending is up. Of course it is, they keep raising prices so the ones that do go pay more. Attendance is dipping again, so up go the prices.
Don’t get me wrong. I buy ears too,I like them, and I buy merchandise all the time, but I’m not going to keep paying the raised prices and I know a lot of Disney consumers are starting to get tired of feeling more like walking piggy banks and less like valued customers.
