Disney Already Cashing in On ‘Home Alone’ with New Apparel, Despite Director Slamming the Remake

Disney is already cashing in on retro Home Alone merchandise, after picking up the property via the Fox acquisition.

ShopDisney has launched a new ‘McAllister Home Security’ sweater today. Here’s the write-up…

This retro pullover sweatshirt offers the services of ”McCallister Home Security,” an imaginary business logo inspired by 1990’s Home Alone.

Interestingly enough, director Chris Columbus recently slammed Disney’s attempt to remake the beloved 1990 Christmas classic for Disney Plus.

In a recent interview, the director said “What’s the point? I’m a firm believer that you don’t remake films that have had the longevity of Home Alone. You’re not going to create lightning in a bottle again. It’s just not going to happen. So why do it? It’s like doing a paint-by-numbers version of a Disney animated film—a live-action version of that. What’s the point? It’s been done. Do your own thing. Even if you fail miserably, at least you have come up with something original.”

Ouch.

Given that Disney has also incurred the wrath of Star Wars creator George Lucas, it’s clear that nothing stands between The Mouse and his cheddar. Not even the cheesemaker.

You can order the ‘McAllister Home Security’ at ShopDisney here. It retails for $39.99.

But that’s not all, Shop Disney has several other Home Alone holiday pieces you can purchase from $21.99 – $39.99 including an ugly sweater.
