Sad news for all comic book fans out there as legendary comic book artist Neal Adams has passed away at the age of 80 years following complications with sepsis.

Neal began his career in comics working on Joe Simon’s The Fly at Archie Comics before eventually making his way to DC Comics.

At DC Comics he would work on multiple issues of series like Action Comics, Adventure Comics and Batman. After his brief stay he would make his way over to Marvel.

At Marvel he worked on multiple issues of The Avengers, Amazing Adventures, Fantastic Four, Conan the Barbarian, Young Avengers, New Avengers and his most well known Marvel work on X-men.

He would later return to DC comics where he would work on The Flash, Superman, Justice League, Batman and perhaps his most well known ‘Green Arrow/Green Lantern’.

Over the year Neal would move back and forth between DC and Marvel working on numerous series as late as 2021. He even helped with the creation of various characters at DC such as Man-Bat, Ra’s al Ghul and the John Stewart Green Lantern.

Adams was also one of the first individuals to push for unionization and creator owned works. His actions helped usher in more creator friendly policies for artists, allowing them to earn additional income from art collectors. He was able to convince Marvel to return artwork to him, Jack Kirby and other Marvel artists.

He was also one of the most vocal when it came to helping Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in their case to receive decades worth of credit and royalties owed to them by DC Comics.

Not only was Adams one of the best comic artists of the 1970s, he also helped usher in new rules and regulations that helped protect the rights of many comic artists going forward. Allowing them ownership of certain works and art.

Hopefully he can rest in peace knowing that he entertained many generations of comic readers in addition to helping defend the rights of his fellow creators.
