Captain America is arguably one of Marvel’s most well known heroes. Debuting in 1941 with an iconic cover of punching Adolf Hitler across the face, the hero represented America; Fighting the forces of evil for the sake of truth, justice and freedom.

In the ever popular Marvel Cinematic Universe the iconic character was portrayed by Chris Evans. The actor is no stranger to Marvel films as he played the Human Torch in the 2005 version of the Fantastic Four by 20th Century Fox.

Chris Evans first played the character in the 2001 Captain America: The First Avenger and instantly became an icon. He would later cement his portrayal of the character in the 2012 Marvel crossover film The Avengers. Evans would later go on to play the character in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and in the climactic two-parter Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame Chris Evans’ Captain hangs up his shield and gives it to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, who would go on to play a new version of Captain America in the Disney Plus series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Since then fans have speculated on if Chris Evans would ever return. Sadly that might not happen.

In a recent interview promoting the upcoming Lightyear film Evans was asked if he would ever return to Captain America. His response:

Yeah, that seems to be something that people would like to see. I don’t want to disappoint anybody, but I just don’t know if, you know, it’s tough. It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it, you know, it’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect.

Sad to say he is unlikely to return. Not to mention a 4th Captain America film is in development, but will instead follow the Sam Wilson version of the character.

What do you think? Will Chris Evans ever return?
