Disney+ wants to get in on the R.L. Stine action by ordering a series of 8 episodes based on his Just Beyond graphic novels that were published by Boom Studios. The new episodes are scheduled to arrive in the fall of 2021.

The series will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith and executive produced by Grahame-Smith with David Katzenberg under their combined KatzSmith Productions. According to Variety R.L. Stine will co-executive produce as will Stephen Christy and Ross Richie.  That’s an awful lot of producers.

Grahame-Smith is familiar with the genre having watched shows like it as a kid:

“I grew up watching ‘Twilight Zone’ reruns and the original ‘Amazing Stories’ with my parents. I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike. R.L. Stine has been a part of millions of childhoods, and Disney Plus has already proven itself as a place that knows how to make high-quality shows for the whole family. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with both of them.”

My kids both loved the R.L. Stine Goosebump books growing up, and they were always popular with the kids I had in class.

Stine has worked with Disney before. At one point there was a Goosebumps HorrorLand show at Walt Disney World’s MGM Studios from October 8, 1997 through November 1, 1998. He mentioned that when he talked about the project:

Back in the day, we had a Goosebumps HorrorLand attraction at Walt Disney World. It was one of the thrills of my life. Now I’m thrilled to be back with Disney for the TV series based on my graphic novels. Writing “Just Beyond” for BOOM! Studios has been a joy from the beginning, and I’m so happy to have the wonderful screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith bring the series to life on Disney Plus. How lucky can I be?

Now it looks like R.L. Stine fans will have something to look forward to.
