Well it looks like the idea that maybe Disney would be able to fix the maintenance issues on the attractions during the down time is not officially not going to happen.
To be honest, I figured they would send workers home. A lot of states are even initiating full shut-downs of any non-essential businesses, with the CDC saying people shouldn’t be in groups of 10 or more, so it was likely coming.
Disney has not yet confirmed or commented on this but according to the Orlando Business Journal:
“Burbank, California-based Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) has shuttered construction operations at Disney World as coronavirus continues to impact Central Florida’s once booming building industry, according to the head of the region’s top construction trade organization.”
We don’t know how this will impact those workers or when they will return to their projects. Disney, as well as many other locations, have been saying they plan on reopening April 1, 2020. But it could be longer.
Right now Walt Disney World is under heavy construction, especially in EPCOT, with preparations underway for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. Hopefully the shut-down won’t cause delays or damage to their current projects.
But safety must come first.
