Hold on to your hats because Universal has just announced that their Super Mario World Park (the one in Japan) will have special magnetic bands that will allow guests to interact in the park and keep their scores! Just like a real game!

(Progress on the construction in Japan)

We just got some more news out of the “Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2019 Media Communications & Entertainment Conference.” Tom Williams, Universal Parks & Resorts Chairman and CEO gave a bit of information about the upcoming attraction (Japan specifically, for now.)

According to ComicBook.com:

New details about Universal’s plans for the Super Nintendo World theme park have revealed that the attraction will utilize some sort of wristband attendees can use to interact with the park’s attractions. News of this them park perk comes from Universal Parks & Resorts chairmen and CEO Tom Williams who spoke at a media conference about the company’s plans. This wristband will apparently keep track of attendees’ “scores” as well while they navigate the park’s Nintendo-themed points of interest.

During this talk Williams described the new wristbands–

“The whole land is interactive, and you’re going to have a wristband.  It’s got the big red Mario symbol on it. It’s — by the way, the wristband is supercool. It’s all magnetic. You slap it at your wrist, and it just snaps on, and it won’t come off.”  He also talked about their “score keeping capability” but didn’t elaborate. So it sounds like you really are part of a video game!

The first of the Nintendo themed parks will open in Japan spring of 2020, but more are coming. He wouldn’t give a specific date for a US Nintendo park but did say “you can count on it” coming to the United States.”

By the concept art given for Epic Universe expansion it’s there in the Orlando park! So I can’t wait to hear more. I really can’t wait to visit one of these Nintendo areas.
