The recent Lightyear from from Pixar is undeniably a box office bomb at this point. Despite praise from critics and lots of advertising the film vastly underperformed when it released this past Father’s Day weekend. No matter how fast it tried to fly it could not go to infinity, nor beyond.

One of the biggest criticisms the film faced was the lack of original voice taken Tim Allen. The former Home Improvement star was seen as a natural fit when the first Toy Story film began production almost 30 years ago. When it released in 1995 it became a smash hit and kids everywhere wanted their own Buzz Lightyear action figure. Why? Because he was such a great character with a great voice to match it.

Not only are longtime fans upset with the film, but Tim Allen himself isn’t a big fan of it either. In a recent interview when asked about how he felt about not voicing Buzz in the film. His response:

“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do with my character. This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.“

“It’s a wonderful story. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little… I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection to this.“

While some fans were worried he didn’t return due to having “differences” with Disney he is returning to the Santa Clause franchise later this year. But he clearly has little to no interest in this iteration. He did voice the character in the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins direct-to-video film in 2000, so him not being here clearly shows that he had issues.
