More multiverse madness is on the way, and it’ll be here sooner than you think! Marvel’s What If…? Season 2 just dropped a trailer full of cameos and a few new faces.
What If..? Season 2 looks to be expanding the roster of characters, steering away from the core MCU heroes and focusing on more recent ones. One of the surprising additions is seeing Hank Pym return as Ant-Man instead of using Scott Lang. Hela, Black Panther, Nebula, Scarlet Witch, and even Odin show up, too.
We also glimpse an arena battle/race scene on Sakaar with several Marvel characters involved in what looks like a vehicular battle. It seems that the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) is still entertaining himself at the expense of others.
The What If…? trailer wraps with the announcement that Season 2 will start streaming just before Christmas. On December 22, the first episode will drop, and the rest will premiere over the following nine days. Yes, there are Christmas-themed episodes.
So, how’s it being received? So far, the trailer has 218k likes and only 5.4k dislikes. That’s a way better reception than what The Marvels got last week!
The first What If…? season culminated in a battle between the Avengers and an Infinity Gauntlet-powered Ultron. After eliminating all life in his galaxy, Ultron discovered the existence of The Watcher and the multiverse. I’m unsure how this new season will top that, but we’ll find out soon enough.
I wish What If…? would drop its dependence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So many stories have been published in the comic that explored some really awesome scenarios with characters either absent from the MCU or underused in the movies.
What do you think of the new What If…? Season 2 trailer? Is it just more of the same, or is it an improvement? Let us know below!
