Burger Digs in the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure infamously ranks as one of the weakest quick service options. Burger Digs. based on its location, develops a long queue often during busy dining hours. The burgers offered here are generally average theme park burgers at best. Many of them cost the same as better ones you can get at full-service places in CityWalk. Yet, good news for plant-based eaters rises at Burger Digs. Burger Digs has replaced its previous version of plant-based burger with something new.
The Herbivore Burger appeared recently at Burger Digs. Portobello mushrooms serve as key component of this burger. Many of us who dine either entirely plant based or periodically plant-based roll our eyes when we see Portobello mushrooms on a vegan dish. This reaction does not reflect on those mushrooms being bad. The reaction results from those mushrooms being almost only vegan options offered at so many restaurants.
Does this “burger” measure up? The menu description online reads: “balsamic marinated roasted Portobello mushroom, smoked tempeh bacon, vegan Swiss cheese, vegan secret sauce, Kalera Krunch lettuce and sliced tomatoes on a toasted Kaiser roll, served with fries.” This burger with fries costs $13.99 so a reasonable theme park price. Considering the beef-based bacon cheeseburger at Burger Digs costs $14.99, the value for this burger shows promise.
How did it taste?
The Portobello mushroom portion was flavorful and not too dry. This burger performs as a large improvement over previous veggie burger. The “secret sauce” reminded some guests of one of the sauces used in the Belgium tent during Mardi Gras with frites. That comparison may be a stretch. Yet, the secret sauce consistency works well. This burger worked as a less heavy traditional burger. The cheese and tempeh function nicely with other components of this burger. Also, the Kaiser style roll holds the components together. Yet, the bread portion does not help but does not hinder the burger quality. If you get too much sauce, this burger will rank as very messy.
Still, this Portobello mushroom-based burger performs solidly as a vegan addition. This menu item may be best burger there. Sorry, that statement does not operate as a resounding compliment. However, this burger increases the quality of vegan options at Universal Orlando. Now, feel free to give it a try on your next visit after (not before) riding Velocicoaster.
