Last Friday the holiday overlay version of ‘It’s A Small World’ was supposed to open to the public, but it didn’t. Rumors have been swirling that when the water was added back into the flume attraction it caused some flooding. The attraction hasn’t opened since and many are wondering if the attraction is damaged worse than many thought.
Yesterday on Twitter an account for David Koenig posted the following information that they had been hearing:
First reports of the delayed reopening of It’s a Small World at Disneyland made me think of the 2018 flooding of a control room at Disney California Adventure that kept World of Color closed for nine months. Little did I realize how similar the two events were.

Cast members I’ve heard from say the damage is far worse than Disney is letting on. Apparently, the Small World flume began leaking when it was being filled in the early hours of last Wednesday Nov. 10. The problem was not discovered until several hours later.

Fears are that a considerable portion of the machinery—some dating back to the 1960s—may have to be replaced, and then recertified by CAL-OSHA.

One Maintenance worker said “the attraction could be closed indefinitely.” Worst case scenario? Up to a year before everything is working again.

In the meantime, security officers have been posted to prevent any snooping around.

Of course this is what one person is hearing. In response another Twitter user disagrees and says their friend works on the attraction and it is almost fixed.
Strange. A friend of mine who knows a cast member on the ride said the ride was 70% fixed and all audio is almost restored. I saw in a livestream the other day that the clock parade music and Tick Tock sound were working again. The hours for the ride are posted for Nov 22.

Personally I’m hoping RedRobinz is correct because there are a lot of people who buy special event tickets or come in just for the holiday overlays on the attraction.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
