The much delayed Obi-Wan series on Disney+ could see Obi-Wan Kenobi surrounded by three “strong female characters” and at least one female co-lead, according to a new rumor.
One of those rumored to to be in the running is Naomi Scott, who played Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin live-action remake.
The Star Wars Disney+ series, confirmed to see Ewan McGregor reprise his prequel era role, has thus far had a failure to launch and there have been rumors of trouble behind the scenes.
The roles that are allegedly being cast call for a BIPOC female co-lead, and two other non-white women in supporting roles. The only other male role reportedly being cast is a doofy sidekick named “Harold.”
(Now THAT’S a Star Wars name if I ever heard one.)
- Riley (aka Eve) Female (20-25) CO-LEAD – A female BIPOC whose character details are being kept under wraps
- Tia Female (30s) SUPPORTING – BIPOC
- Harold Male (Late 20s-30s) SUPPORTING – A quirky, comedic male
- Bella Female (40s) SUPPORTING – Latinx
Here’s more from The Illuminerdi…
The Illuminerdi can also report that three actresses have received callbacks for the key co-lead role of Riley. These actresses are Thuso Mbedu, Anula Navlekar, and Naomi Scott.
Audiences will recognize Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s live action Aladdin, Kim Hart (Pink Ranger) in Power Rangers, and Elena Houghlin in Charlie’s Angels. She would be the actress with the highest profile to secure the “Riley” role, if Lucasfilm so chooses.
Thuso Mbedu is a South African actress who was nominated for an International Emmy Award for her role in Is’thunzi and will soon star in Barry Jenkins’ limited series The Underground Railroad on Amazon Video.
Again, these are all rumors, as legit, verified information has been hard to come by for this series.
While there’s no premiere date set, it’s still rumored to be shooting for a 2022 debut. Obi-Wan is said to be a mere six episodes, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and directed by Deborah Chow.
