As a Halloween Horror Nights newbie, I have been told often that each season needs a classic horror movie like Halloween or Friday the 13th. This year, that role is fulfilled by Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The house and food tent themed to that property is based upon the 1974 movie. This same property was used for HHN26 also. This year the theming and plot is a bit different.
However, for our purposes, HHN30 features themed food tents. The menu features BBQ which might make some of you a bit queasy thinking about the movie plot. In fact, when I went through the Texas Chainsaw house, I joked about becoming a full vegetarian afterwards. If you can get past that horror theme, there are some quality food options at this tent.
This food tent features Coca-Cola BBQ which is served with pickles, white bread, and Coca-Cola BBQ sauce on a 1970’s appropriate style tray. You can get this in three varieties such as roasted lamb spit, ribs, and even a plant-based sausage and chik’n assortment. These will each cost you $11.99 but Universal Orlando annual pass discounts do apply. You can also purchase the well themed and well presented Leatherface Cherry Pie for $5.99. Of course, it would not be HHN without alcoholic beverages so at this tent you can get a Texas Heat Margarita. That drink is not something I will be brave enough to try but if you might enjoy it.
I have several guests reviews of the Roasted Lamb Spit. All of them are positive. There were some concerns about portion size and the simplistic sides. However, this is 1974 themed BBQ in Texas, so the sides are a nice touch. The meat quality was described as juicy in most cases. The lamb is thinly shaved. The BBQ sauce might not have been everyone’s favorite, but they all said it paired very well with the lamb. If you are not from that era of BBQ and/or that region of the USA, you can even dip your bread in the BBQ for a nice combination also.
Even though I went on a few podcasts in preparation for HHN this year to discuss the food, I am surprised with good quality. Many experts, unofficial ones included, speak about drinking their way around HHN instead of dining. This year, the food overall may be catching up with the event itself.
This food tent like most of the themed food tents are only open during HHN nights. If you find yourself going to HHN, you might want to budget some time to select your favorite themed menu treat.
