Forty-year old, Mexican born actor, Tenoch Huerta, has been cast as Namor: The Submariner in the upcoming Black Panther Sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

Not much is known about the story for the upcoming Phase 4 MCU Film, in fact some have even said “Why make a sequel?” when in 2020 actor Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played the titular hero, had passed away due to a long battle with colon cancer.



It has been rumored that Namor would appear in the sequel as he had possibly been hinted at during a passing line in 2010’s Iron Man 2 when Tony is speaking with nick Fury near the end of the film. There, on a map in the background, one Point of Interest is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Namor has been unable to have his own film as the film rights are, like The Hulk, owned by Universal Studios and can only feature him in a film but not star in it.



Namor The Submariner is one of Marvel’s earliest heroes, debuting in 1939. He is the king of the ancient underwater city of Atlantis and is master over all the Earth’s Oceans.

The name “Namor” comes from when you write the word “Roman” backwards, as stated by creator Bill Everett. Namor was one of the first Marvel heroes to crossover with another. He met the Original Human Torch (an android who caught fire when exposed to oxygen) in an epic fire vs. water battle.

He is somewhat of an anti-hero. He defends the Oceans yet hates most surface-dwelling humans due to their pollution, over-fishing habitats, wars and atomic testing.

He was also a founding member of the Hero Team “The Invaders”, who helped Captain America and Human Torch fight the Nazis in WWII.

Some have pointed out that the casting of Tenoch Huerta is a little odd as traditionally Namor is depicted as Caucasian or Mediterranean, but since Namor is a less-known hero Marvel seems to be more open with the casting.

The Black Panther sequel is set for release in 2022.
