Could ‘Alita Battle Angel 2’ Come to Disney+? Robert Rodriguez Says “Anything is Possible”

There were two big pushes in Pop Culture social media over the last couple of years. One was for the release of the “Justice League” Snyder cut, which is now coming to HBOMax. The second was for a sequel to ‘Alita Battle Angel.’

Fans have been spending their own money to do campaigns, banners and more, in hopes of getting a second Alita film. Director Robert Rodriguez says that Disney+ could be a possible outlet for a second film.

The suggestion of doing it as streaming actually came from an interview Simon Thompson did with Rodriguez for Forbes. The interview was about his new “We Could Be Heroes” show on Netflix and his involvement with “The Mandalorian.” But Thompson did ask about the potential for Alita.

Thompson: “With fans of Alita: Battle Angel still baying for a sequel of some kind, and with experience of working with Netflix on We Could Be Heroes and Disney+ on The Mandalorian, could streaming be the savior of that potential franchise as a movie or series?”

Rodriguez: “I think anything is possible. Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney+, so that is worth the conversation. I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far as where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels. It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.

There you go Disney. Bob Chapek has repeatedly stated that they need good IP and more of it for streaming. The whole business model has changed to “Direct-to-Consumer” and making a second Alita film or even a series would make a lot of sense.

As Rodriguez says “..it’s not a bad idea.”

I think the fans would say that Disney needs to do more Alita.

As an aside:

Maybe this time the media won’t unfairly pit Alita against Captain Marvel like they did last time. Instead of being happy that there were two strong-female led movies in the box office, they tried to make it a one or the other choice. Which was just silly.
