Recently there has been a rumor going around that Anthony and Joe Russo were in talks to direct a Secret Wars film for Marvel Studios. It mostly came from them saying how much they would like to do a Secret Wars film, but not a confirmation they were. They have come out and clarified that they are not in talks for this film.
While doing an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, the brothers said that they have not had talks with Kevin Feige for a Secret Wars film.
Joe & Anthony Russo are NOT directing SECRET WARS. At least not yet. No announcement this week at Comic-Con. Sorry guys. But maybe one day!

Josh Harowitz:Â “If I were a betting man. Should I put money on you two eventually helming Secret Wars? What do you advise me and my bookie?”
The response was:
Anthony Russo: “What do you advise us? ”
Joe Russo: “It’s so funny. You know. To be clear there are no conversations.”
Harowitz: “So as we tape Comic Con is about to happen and you aren’t about to step on stage and announce that you’re directing Secret Wars?”
Anthony Russo: “No, no, no no!”
Joe Russo “No. We’re not. I mean you know we haven’t had conversation with those guys about anything that they’re up to because we’ve been intensely busy with our own schedule. Uh, we always answer truthfully when we’re asked.
You know. Would you (Russo brothers) work with them (Marvel)? Of course we would, we adore them. What would you (Russo brothers) like to do? Secret Wars. It was our favorite series growing up. And I think it always gets turned into uhm, a bigger story but to be clear, there is no story.”
I do know that they were supposedly moving on from Marvel after the Infinity War films were completed, which is what they are claiming here. They were moving onto other projects they wanted to do. However, they were talking about how much they would like to do a Secret Wars project in other interviews. It’s easy to see how this got twisted around to be a “confirmation.”
But rumors still persist. Sometimes they have a kernel of truth and sometimes they don’t. The Russo brothers say it isn’t true. Who’s to say that will still be the case in a few months? We don’t know.
It could also be true that Marvel is working on Secret Wars but not with the Russo brothers.
