Fan De-Ages Hayden Christensen In Recent Kenobi Episode

The recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney Plus has received plenty of criticism over the past couple of weeks. Many complaining about the slow pace, the lack of consistency and the seemingly low budget effects, indicating the production was either rushed or unorganized.

The other day the 5th episode of the series dropped, giving us a flashback to the prequel era where we see Anakin Skywalker (Played once again by Hayden Christensen) as a Padawan being fought by Obi-Wan. The timeframe is most likely sometime shortly before or after Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones that released all the way back in 2002.

The big issue was that Hayden Christensen has aged twenty years since then and the SFX team over at Lucasfilm didn’t even attempt to hide that fact. He no longer looks like a 21 year old, you can tell that he is now 41.

Now is that wasn’t bad enough, the other day a video posted by Outlaw Video Production on YouTube showed the same sequence but using deep fake technology to make him appear younger.

What makes this even crazier is that this was apparently the user’s first time using the deep fake technology. At the end fo the video they state:

This was my first time using deepfacelap as a de-aging tool so please don’t rant on me in the comments.

The results are quite good and within 24 hours the video gained over 1 Million views.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. Famously YouTuber Shamook used deep fake technology to improve Mark Hamill’s appearance as Luke Skywalker in the finale to The Mandalorian‘s second season. Lucasfilm was so impressed they officially hired him.

This is quite the embarrassment for a show made by a multi-billion dollar company. Especially when this has happened before. It shows a lack of care for the end product.
