The Castle of any Disney Park is considered the most important centerpiece out of them all. There are trees, mountains and even golf balls, but the castles are the most iconic and synonymous with the Disney Park brand. Recently the Castle at Disneyland Paris underwent a nearly year long refurbishment meant to help spruce it up and maintain its beauty.

Tracy Eck, the castle’s art director of Disney Imagineering Paris, sated in an interview:

“It was the first time we undertook something so monumental. Certain effects have even been improved so that the castle’s structure will be even more resilient in the upcoming years. It took nearly a year to complete these works on site with all of the teams. Painters, electricians, gilders, craftspeople in charge of the tiled roofs etc. It was a hive of activity. Some of the suppliers with whom we were lucky to collaborate on this project only work on historical monuments. When they accepted this assignment, we realized that they viewed our castle as a historical monument that is a part of our heritage. It was very touching.“

The refurbishment took an estimated 50,000 man hours to complete, quite the undertaking. Understandable since the castle is the centerpiece to the park. You’d want to make sure it looked its best, versus covering it with toilet paper and graffiti saying “Stitch was here”.

This news comes during a difficult time as Disneyland Paris is currently at risk of being closed again as Europe continues to tighten their lockdowns and mandates against COVID-19 and its multiple variants. France has been very strict, and may lead to a number of public locations, including Disneyland Paris, to once again close until the local governments deem it safe again to visit. Only time will tell if the parks do close again
