Walt Disney World Raises Prices on Food and Beverages

Remember when CFO Christine McCarthy joked about shrinking portion sizes and it helping guests waistlines? Well I don’t know if the sizes have shrunk down anymore than they already have, but WDWNT just caught that they have raised prices on a bunch of already overpriced food and beverages at the parks.  Disney needs to get every penny they can. I mean multi-million dollar executive bonus money has to come from somewhere and they aren’t getting it from the box office or massive uptick in Disney+ subscribers.

Apparently the “direct-to-consumer” business plan is going back to using the Disney theme parks as a way to offset losses. The Park Piggy Bank!

WDWNT has compiled a list with just some of the price increases that range from .20 – $4.00! Alcohol seems to be more impacted overall, but there are some larger increases on food items as well.

You can see the full list on their site. I’m just going to give you a couple examples they found.

Aloha Isle has some increases:

    • “Pineapple Float – increased from $5.99 to $6.99
    • Pineapple DOLE Whip Cup – increased from $5.99 to $6.99
    • Pineapple Float with Tiki Sipper – increased from $10.99 to $11.99

Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace has some $2-$3 price hikes:

  • Nautilus – increase from $32 to $35
  • Uh-Oa – increased from $23 to $25″

Other popular item increases. $5 for a bottle of soda!

  • “Popcorn bucket refill – increased from $1.89 to $2.25
  • Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar – increased from $5.69 to $5.99
  • Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich – increased from $5.69 to $5.99
  • Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite bottles – increased to $5.00 at some carts, $4.69 at resorts
  • Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory
    • Large Pepperoni Pizza – increased from $14.99 to $18.99
    • Large Cheese Pizza – increased from $14.99 to $17.99

I know a lot of Disney fans will make comments like “Well it’s only .20 more for that.” Or “$3 more isn’t that much.”  True, but multiply it by the number of people in your party, and the number of items you will consume, and by the the number of days you are there it adds up.  Not to mention that’s what people have been saying 2-3 price increases ago, or back in 2018-2019.

We do know inflation and food prices are going up, so I do believe they have increased costs on their end. They are passing it down to the consumer, but park goers are going to see it as yet another attempt at nickel and diming more money. Back before the pandemic it did not help that they would raise prices and then brag about the increased spending per guest.

With inflation and prices increasing how much it too much for people to spend on vacations? I know there have been a lot of articles and polls indicating that people are forgoing Disney vacations more and more due to the increased costs. Which could lead to lower crowds, but even higher prices as Disney tries to increase profits.

What do you think? Comment and let us know!
