Wakanda Forever in Epcot’s World Showcase?

Multiple sources we’re tracking are leading us to believe Wakanda might be coming to Epcot.

Before we get too far into reporting on this rumor, let me preface this by saying that this is extremely early in development. Things can and do change. That said, there are enough different sources corroborating various elements of the same concept that it’s fairly safe to make some very early predictions.

Here’s what we think we know… As detailed in an earlier article, Disney is still very unlikely to build a Wakanda expansion at either Disneyland or Walt Disney World for a variety of reasons you can read about there. That doesn’t mean everything is off the table though.

Wakanda and Black Panther Rumors Explained

Based on what some contacts are saying we do now believe that Disney is planning something for bringing Wakanda to the Walt Disney World Resort. That something seems to be a temporary exhibit at World Showcase, perhaps planned to be placed at the The Outpost location. We are not yet sure if this includes any additional space to be developed for the exhibit, or if the current location will be modified.

We can say with some certainty that this will not include any references to Black Panther or other Marvel Universe characters whose rights for Eastern US theme parks are held by Universal. Could Disney still use some of the Black Panther auxiliary characters as part of the exhibit? Could they create a new character that acts as a tour guide of sorts for the fantasy nation of Wakanda? Well, those are a bit more murky, but maybe.

Of course, Epcot’s World Showcase is supposed to be an area that focuses on real world locations. That’s been loosened a bit with the addition of Frozen (and therefore Arendelle) at the Norway pavilion. That brought a tiny bit of controversy, with Norway not too keen on the idea, but the average Disney World guest has no idea about the issue. So would Disney actually bring in Wakanda as a nation at World Showcase? Well, just know that at this time, that’s not in the cards. What we’re discussing in this article is – for now – only a temporary exhibit.

As we get more information, we’ll keep you up to date on the latest for this future development. We’re being told currently that the addition might make it to Epcot in 2022.
