Universal Orangesicle Doughnut at Voodoo Doughnut Orlando Review

Back in 2018, Voodoo Doughnut at Universal Orlando CityWalk unveiled a special new item. A new doughnut themed to Universal Orlando Resort began being sold. In typical creative fashion, the bakers at Voodoo Doughnut thought outside the box as they say. The Universal Orangesicle continues to be sold at Universal Orlando location.

This doughnut costs $3.45. The menu description reads “raised yeast doughnut filled with Bavarian cream (then) topped with citrus frosting and chocolate pearls.” That description provides a good start. However, this doughnut comes on a popsicle stick, and even features a piece of chocolate with the doughnut’s actual title on it. Since this doughnut has lasted almost four years now, there must be something to it, right?

So how did it taste?

For full disclosure, I enjoyed this doughnut as a palate cleanser after two heavily onion flavored Mardi Gras items (links here: fries & choripan). This doughnut served that purpose very well with the right amount of sweetness. Still, I did not feel overwhelmed by the sugar factor.

As odd as this doughnut sounds, the orange citrus frosting works very well with this creation. The citrus flavor rates as strong but not too powerful. The chocolate pearls on top add a fun flavor and experience.

The Bavarian cream inside meets standard Voodoo level. The raised yeast portion itself rates as average compared to most Voodoo doughnuts. Since I prefer raised yeast doughnuts, I found this disappointing. The filling does not take away from the overall flavor of this doughnut. Still, the cream and raised yeast portion itself cannot carry this doughnut. The orange frosting stars in this concept. The overall flavor provides a solid choice for themed doughnut fans. Though many great options appear on Voodoo Doughnut’s menu, this one may not be the best but clearly rates high.

As always, eat like you mean it!
