The new Jungle Cruise reimagining is underway as Trader Sam has been removed from the final scene in the Walt Disney World attraction.
This story is coming from WDWNT who is reporting that the popular character animatronic has disappeared.
Here’s a video they took of it (full credit to them):
I can’t say many of us are surprised as he, like the “natives” were likely going to be removed for the new version. It’s okay though, new chimpanzee scenes will be coming to replace them, along with a new cast of characters.
To us it’s like taking the Hitchhiking Ghosts out of The Haunted Mansion.
So far Disney seems to have indicated that they will be keeping the Trader Sam’s name on the locations on both coasts that are named after him. I’m sure they will want to keep selling Trader Sam’s merchandise as well even though he’s been removed.
I feel like these changes could have as much to do with the upcoming S.E.A. (Society of Explorers and Adventurers) universe they want to do on Disney+, as it does with “diversity and inclusion” initiatives. But we shall see.
