The year 2022 brings many changes to the Universal Orlando theme parks. Revenge of the Mummy refurbishment lasting until late summer. Shrek 4-D closed forever. In addition, the rumors about Mardi Gras lean towards a full operation this year with parades back to normal and concerts per typical. The food line-up for Mardi Gras sounds impressive based on little pieces of information I have received unofficially. While we wait on announcements about Universal Orlando events, plenty of excellent food options still wait for enjoyment.
First, we will start in the Wizarding World. As first reported by Orlando Informer (or at least I saw it there first), a new flavor of fudge apparated into Universal Orlando. The new clotted raspberry fudge sparkles as only new fudge addition in some time. Guests find this treat within Honeydukes in Islands of Adventure and Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop in Universal Studios Florida. So far, this new fudge sells out quickly each day. As time goes on, this issue should change. Until then, be on lookout for this new fudge.
Next, attempting to play into the rumored replacement for Shrek 4-D, we visit Islands of Adventure. Our trek leads us to the “Mess Tent” food/beverage stand near Skull Island: Reign of Kong. Though I enjoy making fun of the theming at this stand, theming attempts appear here. One of those aspects of theming emerges as banana icees. Universal Orlando offers a wide variety of icees/slushies type drinks. Still, the banana icees provide a bit of theming here to match the Kong attraction. Also, this flavor icee can be difficult to acquire elsewhere at Universal Orlando Resort. You can even use your Coke freestyle cup to receive icees. Since icees cost over $5, icee fans feel satisfied getting one or two as a part of their Coke freestyle cup usage for the day.
In honor of Shrek, we need to go to Finnegan’s. Finnegan’s offers a unique appetizer enjoyed by many guests. The Finnegans’s Potato and Onion Webb costs $9.95. This appetizer takes potatoes and onions wrapping then into a type of web shape. They experience dipping in beer batter being fired golden brown before arriving at your table. When I first had these, I thought I would dislike them. However, like Shrek says about onions, they have layers. The combination of all ingredients creates a unique appetizer. Though, I suggest getting this at lunch time during the week if possible.
Thanks for coming along for another culinary journey. Eat like you mean it at Universal Orlando Resort.
