Whenever you hear the term “Shared Universe” 9 times out of 10 you will most likely think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A big crossover between multiple super hero films all taking place simultaneously within the same world. However it is known that this was not the first time the concept was used. Examples include the Universal Monsters, the classic Godzilla series and the Rankin Bass Christmas Universe. But did you know that there was one made by Disney?

In 2002 Disney released the hit film Lilo & Stitch, a classic film about the meaning of family. The film was so successful that Disney requested a television series be made for the Disney Channel. Lilo & Stitch: The Series first aired in 2003 and it followed Lilo & Stitch as they search for other alien experiments and find them a home. But around this time someone decided to combine this wacky setting with other Disney cartoons.

According to an interview tis series producer Jess Winfield the crossovers were inspired by the old Lilo & Stitch film trailers that showed Stitch invade another Disney film.

The first of these crossovers was with the popular Kim Possible series. A show about a high school cheerleader who was also the female equivalent of 007. When Lilo & Stitch’s arch for, Dr. Hämsterviel, teams up with Dr. Drakken it is up to Lilo, Stitch and Kim Possible to rescue Rufus the naked mole rat.

After that we have a crossover with the Disney’s One Saturday Morning original series, Recess. A show about kids in the 4th grade trying to survive school. Lilo and Stitch team up with the six grade schoolers to help find the experiment “Lax” before their Hawaiian vacation becomes permanent.

Next we go from aliens and spaceships to magic and philosophy with American Dragon: Jake Long. When Jake gets confused for being an experiment Lilo and Stitch must rescue him while also searching for the experiment “Morpholomew”.

And lastly we meet The Proud Family as the whole family decided to take a vacation to Hawaii. On this journey Lilo, Stitch and Penny must protect the little electric squirrel experiment “Sprats” from Dr. Hämsterviel’s evil clutches; All while the Prouds have a wonderful tour of the island.

Arguably one of the strangest shared universes to ever exist. But it was very unique to see a large variety of shows all crossover during this point in time. This universe still technically exists today with the recent revival of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder on Disney Plus.

What do you think of this bizarre shared universe? Do you remember when it first premiered back in 2005?
