Star Wars Lightsaber Forge Adds The Dark Saber To the Line

Who would have guessed that the art of building and design lightsabers would have bled over into the business of children’s toys? When I was a lad in the ’80s, we didn’t have many choices for lightsaber replicas. You could get the official one which was just hollow plastic that would make a sound via air forced down the hilt.

It wasn’t until the ’90s with the Power of the Force line did we get more accurate replicas of the Jedi weapons with lights and sound. They were basic but better than nothing. So during the 1980s, we resorted to spraypainting broomsticks and taping up the and pretending they were hilts. Then we’d hit each other with them like little barbaric Tuscan Raiders.

Now kids have it all sorts of cushy. Not only can you get light-up sabers, but you can change out the parts to have your own custom weapon that won’t leave permanent damage if you whack someone over the head with it.

Hasbro had previously released mix-and-match lightsaber kits, but now the line is branching out somewhat by experimenting with more colorful hilts and interesting-looking varients.

The saber hilts include the standard dark saber and two that are a bit more stylized. The Darth Maul one is interesting. I would have never guessed that he was the sort of Sith who would use his own branding on his weapon. If this became a trend, would the Emporer’s lightsaber look all wrinkly like a … Oh. Oh, no. We couldn’t have that. That would be very bad. Never mind, I said anything.
